The innovation centre for the world

New Zealand is a nation of innovators who think differently and through our brand of ingenuity is considered the innovation hub for the rest of the world.

We are fearless, adaptable, and think outside of the square. We are long time innovators, being based at the end of the earth, traditionally without all the resources others have. This has made us tenacious, curious and led us to make things out of necessity. This isolation is no longer a barrier, we are connected, well travelled and have resources that are in demand. Clean cheap energy, low corruption, ease of doing business, fertile lands, fibre rolling out, a small and self contained test market and smart smart people. I see a post-scarcity future, with automation in full swing where the skills in highest demand are the ones our people possess

New Zealand is a place talent wants to live and we can increase the flow of talent here simply. The more interesting problems we can solve here, the deeper we make our talent pool and the easier we make access to capital. These three things are all self-reinforcing.

We seek to answer all the questions about how technology will change New Zealand and our lives. We need a clear path but also have an adaptable strategy; as technology advances we should be able to easily course correct.

Access

Ensure all New Zealanders have access to participate in the future.

We need to ensure access to the technology and tools to craft and build that vision so our people are architects of it, not just consumers. What is the infrastructure to support them in navigating towards that vision? How do we put the digital tools into anyone’s hands? How to we guarantee them access to this future?

Education

Provide a modern way to learn and to have equal access to future technology in education.

We need to demystify the future and inspire our people to want to be part of something great. How do they want to participate in that future? What will change bring and how do we embrace it versus fearing it. This is particularly key for parents, educators and leaders who are the gatekeepers in many ways for the next generations. We need them to feel positively inspired that we can build a bright technological future. The pathways for our tamariki to be part of this future need to be tangible. Our schools and places of learning need to adapt to leverage technology. Only then can they help slingshot our next generations to be the future innovators.

Industry

Engage industry to solve the biggest and best problems with technology.

New Zealand is a place talent wants to live and we can increase the flow of talent here simply. The more interesting problems we can solve here, the deeper we make our talent pool and the easier we make access to capital. These three things are all self-reinforcing. We seek to engage with industry to solve the right problems with technology.

Inspire

Inspire others to be part of the future.

Along the way it’s about telling our stories of how Aotearoa has always been a place of technological innovation, of doing things differently.
